okay so… we’ll see where we are tomorrow…

Feb 25th, 2010 | 1 comment

I know we’ve been saying this for awhile, and it’s very possible that many of you are rolling your eyes at this point, but we really are going to be looking at a very, very advanced cut of the film tomorrow.  Our hope is that after this, the essential structure and shots are in place, and we’ll be fine tuning, adding music, pacing, doing sound design, color correction, sound mix, etc. etc, all to bring it to the finish line.  My hopeful guess is that we’re almost there.

There have been so many twist and turns on this long road to completion, we hope that most people are still ready to see it.  It’s funny, dramatic, tense, and actually pretty darned moving, if you ask me.  Alas, we think we have a winner, and we hope you do, too.

In the meantime, we saw an amazing documentary that was a huge hit at Sundance this year, and for good reason.  ”Catfish” is absolutely amazing, and the problem is I can’t talk about it because there are so many surprises that you can’t divulge too many details without ruining it.  Suffice to say, I’m sorta glad we didn’t go up against it this year.  I mean…I think our film is far more commercially appealing, but “Catfish” is disturbing and tense and superweird and pretty sublime, actually.  Kudos to the filmmakers for finding a story and following it all the way to the end, and then some.  Put it on your list when it comes out.  A must.  Just be prepared for some darkness.

Tiger Woods is not a great public speaker

I didn’t like his statement of apology or whatever it was today.  He could use some public speaking training, don’t you think?

Did Tiger Woods help himself today?

Bob McTeer, legendary economist and Toastmaster, speaks!!

Feb 17th, 2010 | 3 comments

We’re feeling really fortunate in SpeakEasyLand today. Bob McTeer, the former President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas – as well as former Chancellor of Texas A&M University – has been exposed: he was a Toastmaster!!   Now he’s on the public speaking circuit and, from what I’m told, is fantastically entertaining and insightful.   We’re obviously honored he sent us a brief “guest blog post” about his Toastmaster experience.   There’s plenty more on his site bobmcteer.com (special thanks to his son and great friend of SpeakEasy, Scott McTeer…the best fitness guru around… www.ybyl.com

His thoughts below:

“I had the good fortune to participate in Toastmasters in the 1970s while working as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. A big part of my job was speaking to various groups, and I was eager for all the help I could get. In addition to the practice I got speaking and being critiqued, I found working my way through the various officer spots (including president) to be helpful since we got to practice running meetings from different perspectives.
