Does anyone have a brief story about public speaking? We’re looking for some input!!

I joined Toastmasters in Brea California May of 2009 to help me get rid of the nervous symptoms that come with public speaking. Toastmasters helped me so much that In 4 months I was competing with my 10th speech at an area humorous speech contest & won first place to my surprise. I then moved up to the division humorous speech contest & came in second, just missed the conference finals.

At Toastmasters I not only learned to become a better speaker but to also a better leader, better listener & a better person. Now I enjoy helping other members reach their potential.

Yes, I was nervous at the area speech contest & the division, but what Toastmasters teaches you is to speak from your heart, to be yourself.
When the president of my company found out about my accomplishments at Toastmasters he email me to tell me I was an inspiration to all my co-workers. That was my reward, knowing you can inspire people in a positive way, can’t thank Toastmasters enough for all they do.

Competing in speech contests is not just about you, it’s about your club where you meet once a week because you learn to become a better speaker by listening to your fellow members speak. You take a little from every one and apply it when you speak. Thanks to my fellow members I was able to compete in speech contests, they volunteer their time by mentoring you & cheer you on with positive influence.
